National Trust Locations: Hardcastle Crags
If you’ve received your free National Trust Family Membership but aren’t sure where to visit, we’ve got you covered! This month, we’re sharing another recommendation with you - Hardcastle Crags. Within close proximity to Hebden Bridge, Hardcastle Crags is an excellent, nature-filled woodland escape for the whole family.
With lots of wonderful unspoilt woodland areas to explore, your little ones have lots of space and freedom to create their own adventures! There are also lots of walking routes to follow, most of which are suitable for families of all abilities who are used to walking. If you’re feeling particularly confident, and have older children, try taking a steeper climb up the crags where you’ll find a fantastic viewpoint to look at some truly stunning scenery.
Fancy yourselves a Scout? You can also try the Hardcastle Crags orienteering courses:
“choose from three levels for a bespoke challenge, perfect for families or more experienced explorers, and get that feeling of satisfaction that comes from finding your way in the great outdoors.”
Activities like this are an excellent way to introduce your children to a new skill, and encourage them to explore, make decisions and find their way, all while having lots of fun!
Once you’ve walked, climbed and scouted your way through the crags, head to the Gibson Mill, home to the Weaving Shed Café, open Friday - Sunday. This is where you’ll be able to get a range of food and drink to treat yourself after a hard day of adventure and excitement. There is also a second hand bookshop run by volunteers, and the Mill runs craft days that you can take part in, so make sure to check out their events page. If your little ones are still bursting with energy, you’ll find a dedicated den building area just behind the mill where they can have one last adventure for the day.
A trip to Hardcastle Crags would make an excellent day out for the whole family, so why not visit with your free National Trust membership? Refer a family to Muddy Boots to go on your own outdoor adventures with a National Trust membership.
We’d love to see what you get up to; share some photos of your visit with us on Famly!
