Let’s Talk Government Funded Childcare
Did you know, on average 26% of parents are on a waitlist for childcare?
It’s never too early to start your childcare journey – the sooner you enquire, the sooner you can ensure you secure the days and location that best suits your needs.
Are you using your government childcare funding ?
If you’re a working parent, do you know how the 15-hour and 30-hour childcare funding works and what you could be claiming? You might be entitled to more childcare funding than you realise.
Here’s the current funding available in England:
15 hours per week - All families in England with children aged 3 and 4 are entitled to 15 hours of funded childcare per week, usually taken over 38 weeks of the year (570 hours)
30 hours per week – From September 2025, eligible working parents can access 30 hours of funded childcare per week from the term after their child turns 9 months old up until they start school.
These funded hours can be used with nurseries, childminders, and other approved childcare providers, and some settings allow the hours to be stretched over more weeks of the year.
Often, parents only realise the 30-hour support once they’re already paying significant fees, but if you’re eligible, this funding can make a real different to your childcare budget.
Beyond easing childcare costs, understanding your funding can make a real difference to:
· Your work-life balance
· Decisions about returning to work or increasing your hours
· Planning ahead if you run a business or lead a team
If you’re unsure what you qualify for or how to apply, you’re not alone, and help is at hand.
